Campus Minister:  Ms. Sarah Simon

 

Mission Statement:  The Campus Ministry Program at Xavier High School exists to invite the community to embrace the call to fullness of life in Christ and in the Church.  At its core, Xavier Campus Ministry is about building the Kingdom of God.  The means to that end include program elements such as retreats, liturgies, prayer experiences, service learning, and spiritual formation.

 

Objectives:

  •  To communicate and proclaim the Gospel message
  • To provide opportunities for members of the school 
    community to deepen their understanding of, and 
    commitment to Jesus and His message
  • To invite and encourage involvement in and celebration 
    of the faith community through various forms and styles 
    of worship
  • To foster the personal and spiritual growth of each person
    1. To help individuals realize their significance in 
      relationship to school, family, Church and the
      world community
    2. To call on and encourage members of the school
      community to share their gifts and to minister to
      others’ needs
  • To raise consciousness about, and encourage action regarding contemporary moral and social problems, as well as to urge people to work toward a more just, safe and peaceful world 
  • To complement the general goals and objectives of the religion department and of the school

Components of the Xavier Campus Ministry Program: 

Prayer and Liturgy

  • Monthly all-school Liturgies
  • Weekly “optional” Mass offered before school
  • First Friday Eucharistic Adoration
  • Weekly all-school prayer services
  • Reconciliation services - Advent & Lent
  • Weekly “optional” Rosary offered
  • Morning prayer as a community and meal prayer at lunch

Retreats

  • Freshman Retreat - focus on love of God, neighbor and self
  • Sophomore Retreat - your faith inside out
  • Junior Retreat - call to vocation
  • Senior Retreat - preparing your faith for college
  • Optional retreats offered occasionally

Service

  • 10 hour/semester service requirement - total of 80 hrs by graduation
  • Junior service project with reflection piece
  • Help Your Neighbor Day - school community day of service
  • 6th & 9th grade service retreat
  • Dominican Republic mission experience - alternative spring break trip
  • Summer service trips
  • Service projects by athletic teams and clubs

Spiritual Formation

  • Retreat leaders for 9th grade retreat and middle school retreats
  • Spiritual leaders for athletic teams
  • Small faith sharing communities within the school
  • Participation in liturgy and prayer services
  • Planning of liturgy and prayer services
